Change to Veteran Class for State Teams

Pat-Knutson-2

Message from Pat Knutson:

Beginning with the 2017 shooting year, the Veteran State Team selections will be based on your HOA average of 400 eligible targets in the 12, 20, and 28 gauges, and the .410 bore. No other team requirements have been changed.

In previous years, the Veteran State Team was based on 400 eligible targets in the largest gauge you shot 400 eligible targets in. This change was approved by the Board of Directors in November, 2016.

Conservation Park Fun Shoot Postponed

The Conservation Park Fun Shoot that was previously announced for Saturday, Jan 14, has been moved to Saturday, Jan 21, due to the incoming foul weather this weekend and the soggy ground conditions from the last snow storm.
Please pass the word!

The Fun Shoot will consist of 4 events in all: 50 skeet, 50 trap, 50 wobble trap, and 50 5-stand. Registration begins at 9am and ends at 10:30am. These are all unregistered targets. Also, you do not need to shoot all 4 events, shoot any event you like, $10 fee per event. Pot luck lunch will be provided, so bring a dish or your favorite crockpot recipe to share. Winners in all 4 events will be determined by drawing, NOT by high score, to give everyone a chance to win. Contact Laura Key via email at conservationpark@aol.com to pre-register or for more information.

Change of Address

Moving-Locations

Greetings, everyone.  We’re well into the third day after New Year’s Day, and I hope all of you are still holding fast to whatever New’s Years resolution(s) you have made.  I have a New Year’s resolution of my own to share: I’m done with the Lake of the Woods community here in Locust Grove, and I’m moving back up to the Northern Virginia area. In fact, I’m off the rest of this week, packing and cleaning, and putting my house on the market.  Commute times of over two hours to Reston and back are just not appealing any more.

For those of you who will soon be sending me referee applications and exams, please make a note of my new address.  I have already changed it under Contacts > VSSA Officers and under Info > Referee Resources, but here it is again for your info:

President’s Message - 2017

Charlie-Daniel-2

Well, skeet shooters, it is time to start thinking about the new season.  Many of you have been loading shells and getting ready for this year's shoots.  Our clubs are facing many challenges this year as shooting has been down for several years and costs are still going up.  Our shooters can help their clubs out by pulling targets and working around the clubs during the shoots.  Please take the referee test and offer to help around your club.  Thanks to a little give and take by the club reps and a lot of work by Jeff Key we have our 2017 schedule ready.  Our Virginia State Shoot will be held at Conservation Park of Virginia (Richmond Gun Club), August 16-20.  Richmond will also have the Elite Arms/Kolar Open, June 15-18.  Please make your plans early for these two shoots.

VSSA officers are looking forward to seeing all of you around the state and shooting with you.  We hope you all have a great year and shoot really well.

Charles Daniel,  VSSA President

Happy New Year!

Happy-New-Year

Happy New Year, everyone!

I hope that everyone woke up this morning without too many ill effects from New Year’s festivities.  Here’s hoping that 2017 brings you and your family much happiness, prosperity, good health, but most importantly, excellent skeet scores!

And speaking of skeet, I have a couple of shoots to announce for January.  First, Conservation Park is hosting a fun shoot on Saturday, Jan 14th.  Registration begins at 9am and ends at 10:30am.  There are 4 events in all: 50 skeet, 50 trap, 50 wobble trap, and 50 5-stand.  These are all unregistered targets.  Also, you do not need to shoot all 4 events, shoot anything you like, $10 fee per event.

And Fairfax will be hosting their annual Red Nose Open on Saturday, Jan 21st.  This is a 12-gauge only shoot.  Contact Buddy Baker at 703-580-6740 or by email at baker7474@verizon.net to pre-register.
