President's Message

President’s Message - January 2016

Well skeet shooters, it is time to start thinking about the new season. Many of you have been loading shells during the winter, so that you will have a large stockpile when you start shooting in the spring. And we now have our new schedule and I would like to thank the club reps for working together to make this happen. There is always some give and take between the club reps to work out our schedule.

This year, our Virginia State Skeet Shoot will be held at Arrowhead Gun Club, while Conservation Park of Virginia (aka Richmond Gun Club) will again host the Elite Arms/ Kolar Open. While shooting has declined all over the country, Virginia has remained one of the states where shooting has declined very little. Our gun clubs have done a good job of holding costs down and putting on good shoots.

I hope that everyone has taken the referees test and will offer to ref at your local club. This is still one of the major costs of putting on a shoot and all help is greatly appreciated. Hope to see you at the shoots this year and hope that you all shoot well.

President’s Message - January 2015

Well skeet shooters, it is time to start thinking about the new season.  Many of you have been loading shells, while others have been wondering where you can get some powder.  I have talked to some shooters that have found powder in the last couple of weeks, so maybe it will be available soon.  We are faced with many challenges this year with the shortage of powder and shot.  I have talked to several shooters who say that they will reload .410 and 28, and shoot factory shells in the 20 and 12, as that will save the most on shells.  We have our schedule worked out and as usual it was a little give and take by many clubs to make it come together.  I would like to thank the club reps for working together to make this happen.

This year, Conservation Park (Richmond Gun Club) will have four large shoots:

     - May 8-10, Old Dominion/Pletcher Open

     - May 11-15, Armed Services Skeet Championships

     - June 18-21, Elite Arms/Kolar Open

     - August 12-16, Virginia State Skeet Championships.

All Virginia shooters are welcome to shoot in three of these.  Only the Armed Services shoot is restricted to military, retired military, and military veterans.  I hope that everyone has taken the referee test and will offer to ref at your local club.  This is still one of the major costs of putting on a shoot and all help is greatly appreciated.  Hope to see you at the shoots this year and hope that you all shoot well.

President’s Message - January 2014

Well fellow shooters, spring is almost here. We have finalized our VSSA 2014 shooting schedule. The Great Eastern is back at Conservation Park in Richmond. We have new sponsors Kolar Arms and Elite Firearms taking over for Remington. All our clubs face challenges this year as the cost of travel and shooting supplies continue to rise. All club members need to fall in and help at your local club. This will help your club hold cost down and make your club more attractive to other shooters. We shooters in Virginia have done a good job in the past and haven’t had as much of a shooting drop-off as most states. We need to keep up the good work. I hope that you all shoot great this year.
