Response To An Anonymous Letter

An anonymous letter from a "Concerned Skeet Shooter" has been received by the Officers of VSSA (and perhaps others unknown) stating that Katherine Adams is in violation of NSSA rules in that she:

     1) "appears to have participated and received State Championship awards in more than one State during
the same year” (North Carolina and Virginia in both 2014 and 2015)

     2) “is currently a resident of North Carolina."

The purpose of this notification is to set the record straight in the event you are in receipt of a copy of this letter and to, hopefully, communicate with the writer.

Katherine Adams is currently a college student in North Carolina, but her "bona fide” permanent residence remains in Virginia.

She shot in both the North Carolina Open State Shoot and the Virginia Closed State Shoot in both 2014 and 2015. The titles she won in the North Carolina Open State shoots were OPEN titles, NOT State Championship titles. She won Virginia State titles fairly and according to NSSA rules.

For example, a printout of NSSA's shoot report from the 2015 NC Open Championship (included with the letter) listed Katherine Adams as the Lady OPEN Champion 12 and 20 gauge events. The STATE Lady Champion (as shown in NSSA records and as published in the 2015 Records Annual) for both events was Sydney Duncan.

We are truly sorry the individual did not feel comfortable enough with one of us to discuss his/her concerns before going to the trouble of writing and mailing a letter. If the writer feels this information insufficient to satisfy their concerns, we would request they contact one of us (your choice) directly in the near future.

Sincerely, Officers of the VSSA:

Charles Daniel (President)
Rebecca Myers (VP & State Shoot Chairman)
Tom Hill (Treasurer)
Jeff Key (Secretary)

State Shoot Referees Needed

For those of you planning to attend the State Championships at Arrowhead in August, I’m looking for referees, both shooting and non-shooting, that are interested in pulling.  While I already know of a few refs who would like to “iron man” and pull every squad each day of the shoot, I still have plenty of openings for refs and I want to give everyone who wants to pull targets the opportunity to do so.  You do not have to be an NSSA official referee, but it is important that you are very familiar with the rules and have served as a referee before.  If you have any questions, call me on 540-419-9420.

If you are interested in reffing, please send me an e-mail using the link below.  I am working closely with Becky, and once the squads and rotations have been determined, I will know when everyone is scheduled to shoot, so we can work together to find squads for you to pull for that don’t interfere with your shooting.  In your email, please indicate which days you’re interested in pulling, how many squads per day you would like to pull for, and your cell number so I can reach you. I will try my best to accommodate everyone’s wishes.  I will also need help for shoot-offs.

Looking forward to seeing all of you at the state shoot!  -Lane Hartle, Chief Referee
