Seasons Greetings!

Laneman-01As the holiday season approaches, I wanted to take a few minutes to pass along some news to everyone.  I’ve been shooting registered skeet in Virginia since 1999, just after I left the Air Force and joined the CIA in 1998.  Several weeks ago, I announced to my managers that I plan to retire from the federal government in April, after more than 36 years, and move on to my next career in the private sector.  Along with my decision to retire, I also decided to leave Virginia, so I recently relocated to a nice rural area in southern Maryland.  How rural?  It took 4 weeks to get cable TV and internet service, which is why I haven’t updated our website for a while, but all is good now…

The time has come for me to step down as your chief referee.  I have served as the chief referee for the past three years, and will still be the chief referee for the 2019 state championships.  And since I still own property in Virginia until the end of January 2019, I’m still eligible to shoot the Virginia state shoot with my squad one last time.  That being said, I would ask the directors and club representatives to be thinking about someone to nominate as chief referee at the 2019 state shoot meeting.  Please contact Becky, Judy or myself if you’d like to be considered for the chief referee position.

Santa-HaynieThe time has also come for me to transfer the website and Facebook page responsibilities to someone else.  I have maintained the VASkeet website since I redesigned it and posted the first article on June 5, 2014.  I have also paid for all the hardware, software, and web hosting fees out of my own pocket, because I enjoyed the challenge and I enjoyed providing a service to my fellow skeet shooters.  Again, please contact Becky, Judy or myself if you’re interested in becoming the webmaster for our website and editor for the Facebook page.

Oh yes, the seasons greetings…  I wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  May all of you shoot well and enjoy time with friends and family next season.  And I’ll see you at the shoots!!

-Lane Hartle, Chief Referee

2019 Shooting Schedule

Greetings everyone.  Now that our 2018 season is over, it’s time to focus on the upcoming 2019 shooting season.  I’m attaching a copy of the final schedule that was approved at the November Board of Director’s meeting.

Start planning now for the shoots you’d like to attend.  Of special note for next year, Conservation Park is hosting both the Armed Services Shoot in May and the Zone 2 Championships in August.  Our state shoot will be held at the Fredericksburg Rod & Gun Club.

Also, we have a few new clubs to welcome to VSSA, and both are holding their first shoots next season. The Mathews Gun Club is hosting three shoots in March, June and October, and Rivanna is hosting two shoots in April and September.  Be sure to add these new clubs to your schedule and show them your support.

Hope to see all of you at the shoots next year!  -Lane Hartle
